Thomas Linssen is the young designer behind Studio Thol, a Dutch design studio based in Amsterdam. Linssen set up his studio in 2007 after graduating from The Design Academy Eindhoven and now creates interesting works inspired by the evolution of the natural world. One of his most unusual designs is a kitchen island made from concrete.
For this project, which Linssen custom designed for a privately-owned residence, he used a robust textile mould into which he cast the concrete, allowing it to settle into its own form. At certain points the mould was supported so that Linssen could control the shape of the kitchen to some extent, but its overall feel is one of industrial rawness.
