As you all know, nobody loves well designed, unique products for the home more than me. Only problem is that they don’t come cheap, and nor should they when you consider all the hard work, creativity and years of experience that go into making them. But when money is tight, like it is for me right now, (having just bought our first flat at the end of last year and then with the arrival of our gorgeous little angel Matylda) these designer goods can become somewhat out of reach and we are forced to look for cheaper alternatives. Luckily there are some really great homeware ranges coming onto the market right now and from some unlikely players. You might have noticed that I have done a few posts recently about the SS14 collections that have been launched by supermarkets. Back in January I featured both Marks & Spencer and Sainsbury’s, but it seems that they are not the only supermarkets that have upped their game in the style stakes when it comes to homeware.
I was recently contacted by the team at Tesco asking if I would be interested in receiving a sample of products from their relaunched homeware offering by the new design team under the direction of Steven Rowe, to try out and style up for my blog. I must admit I was a little skeptical at first as Tesco isn’t normally the first place that springs to mind when I think of designer homeware. But having had a good look at the range online, I have to admit I was very pleasantly surprised. The products were grouped into a number of trends, namely couture, monochrome, Moroccan, seaside and sherbet crush. Many of the products were very striking and certainly not something I would expect to see down my local supermarket. And even more surprising was the fact that all these items remained in the price range I would expect from my local supermarket. This filled me with a great sense of optimism knowing that it is possible to get a designer look at affordable high street prices.
Tesco SS14 Homeware Range
I take inspiration from everywhere I go, whether it’s travelling round the world, from the catwalks or watching a film. The trends in the range reflect a variety of designs and colours to offer something for everyone’s taste

So after much deliberation I opted to explore the monochrome trend. As I may have mentioned before I am quite fickle when it comes to colours and patterns and I have a tendency to go off things quite quickly, so monochrome seemed like the perfect trend for me. Next I decided to narrow this trend down to the bedroom as our master bedroom is the next room on my list to do up as it needs the least work. Luckily when I took a proper look at the monochrome products suitable for the bedroom I knew I was onto a winner. Not only were there some fantastically striking monochrome products available that would make a real statement in the bedroom, but they also incorporated a second trend that I am a big fan of right now: geometric.
Monochrome is likely to be very popular this season because it is so crisp, clean and stylish

I selected six different products from the new range, which Tesco kindly sent me and as soon as the products arrived I realised I was in for a real treat. Not only did they look great but I was extremely surprised by the quality. The ombre stripe print duvet set in particular was a great find and I love the fact that the simple stripes are offset by the bright pop of yellow on the reverse of both the duvet and the pillows. A further nice surprise was the piping the edged the set, I thought that this was a really nice touch and gave it a much more expensive feel. I chose the square Karlsson metal clock which again felt far more expensive than I was expecting and I am sure that nobody would ever guess that it comes from Tesco. The white vase was a lovely geometric addition and was surprisingly heavy, which added to the sense of quality. I also chose a super soft black fleece throw and black faux Mongolian cushion which admittedly didn’t feel quite as impressive and expensive as the bedding and the clock. A geometric candle finished the look. You can take a look at how I styled in all up in the gallery below, Just click on the individual images to expand them.
I was so happy and surprised with how the overall look turned out and I am convinced that nobody would guess that all this comes from Tesco. I for one would be more than happy to invest in more items from the Tesco range to achieve the monochrome trend in my bedroom and the good news is that there are plenty more items to choose from including an great range of cushions and an extensive collection of black and white bedding.
Customers love being able to be ‘supermarket-chic’, surprising their friends with pieces they’ve picked up that are great quality but with a price tag that their friends will never guess. It’s also convenient as they can browse as they’re doing their weekly shop
