Little Bishop Ceiling Hook for Cable Hung Pendant Lights

Kickstarter is such a great resource for creative people like designers, illustrators, writers, publishers and filmmakers (to name but a few) who are looking to get their projects funded. I love the idea of crowdfunding because it allows creative people to put their hopes and dreams on the line in front of millions of potential backers who can help them to bring their projects to life. I myself have pledged funds for a couple of Kickstarter projects now and I take real delight in knowing that my small contribution has helped someone to meet their goal. The most recent project that I have backed is that of Antony Richards, an industrial designer from Melbourne, Australia. Antony has designed a super sleek solution for hanging cable hung pendant lights from the ceiling.

Antony is the manager of interior design business Hunter & Richards, which he runs with his partner Dominique Hunter. For years, Dominique has been frustrated with the makeshift way that cable hung pendant lights are traditionally secured. Antony decided to do something about it and used his spare time and background in jewellery design to carefully handcraft a hook that would suspend cable hung ceiling lights with no knot, clamp, bolt, screw or clip.

Talking about the project, Antony says: “After giving myself a bum steer 20 years ago and getting sucked in to the digital and print design scene, I’ve recently returned to my true passion, and what I actually studied to do – product design. So when my partner Dominique Hunter came back to the office one day frustrated as all hell that she couldn’t find anything but an el-cheapo brass hook to hang some pendant lights for a client, I knew it was time to get cracking! I hit the workshop hard, and came out with a pretty good result.”

What really strikes me about this design is the way that the cable secures itself without the need for any additional mechanisms. The hook, which has been called Little Bishop, is a really beautiful object in itself, but once the electrical cable has been hooked into it, it fades modestly into the background and let’s the pendant light really shine!

Dominique says: “There are so many cool light fittings around, and just because you’re not spending a lot on one doesn’t mean you have to compromise on the minor details and finish of an interior project by using a cheap hook from the hardware store. We wanted something that was designed for this purpose alone, a solution that would suit any pendant no matter the budget or style of interior.”

Antony is seeking funding for this gorgeous design via a Kickstarter campaign which will run until 11th March, 2015. I’ve already pledged my money and I can’t wait to receive my Little Bishop. It will be perfect for suspending my copper Plumen drop cap pendant light in my bedroom. If you are looking to install a stylish pendant light in your home, I suggest you pledge your money too as I’m pretty sure you won’t find a ceiling hook as sleek and sexy as this one anywhere else on the market. UPDATE: By the time the Kickstarter campaign ended, Antony had raised three times the amount of money that he needed. Massive pat on the back and means that I will definitely be the proud owner of a Little Bishop in the not too distant future! Hoorah!
