My Top Picks from IMM Cologne 2013

The Hey-Sign stand at IMM Cologne 2013 was packed full of bright and colourful felt products including lighting, furniture and floor coverings

Firstly, I would like to apologise that it has taken me so long to get this imm cologne post up on the blog. I’ve had articles to write, other blog posts to compile, interviews to organise and pictures to edit…so many pictures. But then that is what is so great about BlogTour. You see so many amazing things in such a short time that you come back with more content than you will ever realistically be able to post.

Now I’m probably going to feature some of these products in a lot more detail in the coming weeks as many of them are so interesting and so intriguing that just a few snaps really wouldn’t do them justice. I think to fully appreciate them in all their glory we really need to speak to the designers and find out the exact story behind each product. So keep an eye out for those posts.

So onto the good stuff! This is just my round-up of my favourite IMM Cologne 2013 picks. LivingKitchen will get its own post and I may well do a separate one on the trends that I spotted at the show. So in no particular order, these were the things that caught my eye.

The Concept Kitchen by Naber is an adorable modular mini kitchen that not only looks great but is highly practical and can be flexibly adapted to the user’s lifestyle.

The Hallelujah lamps by Carla Peters of Wonderable are made of waste paper from Vietnamese printing. They are made in the same way as traditional Vietnamese garlands.

The stand by Italian design brand ex.t featured products by a variety of designers who work with the brand. The company scouts for designers who are just starting out in their career and works with them to produce products for the bathroom, home furniture, accessories and lighting.

The Eco Design range of products designed by Giorgio Caporaso is made from corrugated cardboard and combines sustainability and clever design in a cost-effective way.

The Designyouedit stand featured a variety of products that can be modified and customized to meet the needs of the user. My personal favourite was these modular seating units that can be reconfigured and combined to make countless different seating options.

The Riflessi in Laguna table by Riva 20 really caught my eye. The base of the table is made of mirror-finished stainless steel with a polished surface on one side representing still water and on the other side it is moulded to reproduce the effect of water in motion.  Resting on this are wooden planks that are encased in some kind of resin.

Rukotvorine is a family-owned company based in Bosnia and Herzegovina that works with the ancient traditions of wood carving techniques. The products on show were a beautiful and awe-inspiring synergy of design, technology and craftsmanship.

These colourful pendant lamps were on the Skitsch stand and I couldn’t resist taking a snap as we walked past as they looked so bright and cheery in that little cluster.

So there you have it… IMM Cologne 2013 condensed right down to my favourite picks. Obviously, there were so many other things that caught my eye but I can’t feature them all.
