Trend for knitting in interiors

The Granny Pendant Lamp by Pudelskern

I’ve been meaning to write a blog about this trend for a while as it is probably one of my favourite trends of 2010. I am a big fan of knitting despite the fact that I am not exactly what you would call proficient in my knitting skills. A scarf is about as far as my basic stitches have taken me.

And whilst I would not necessarily want to fill my own house with knitted accessories, the proliferation of woolen furniture, fixtures and fittings that hit the market in 2010 has shown that a craft previously considered out-dated has found a renewed popularity amongst the younger generations of designers.

Now we can fill our homes with furniture that Grandma would be proud of and with the severe weather conditions that most of us have had to cope with already this winter, what better way to add warmth and coziness?

The trend for knitted interiors even encompassed some rather unexpected accessories including clocks, table lamps, and even rugs. The creativity shown by young designers today certainly puts my scarf knitting to shame.

I am now seriously considering enrolling in that knitting class that starts in January. Maybe I won’t ever be able to make a knitted clock or a knitted chair, but a cushion isn’t exactly outside the realm of possibility.
