I don’t know about you guys but I’ve been noticing some really fantastic developments in bathroom trends. The amazingly talented Karen Knox of Making Spaces wrote a brilliant post at the end of 2017 about the possible alternatives to chrome brassware in the bathroom . In this post she explained that matt black and brass were the top choices, but that the market was taking a while to catch up and actually offer these alternatives. Karen rounded up some of the options that were already available and today I wanted to share some new options with you from leading bathroom brand Crosswater.
Matt black is a favourite option of mine and I actually opted for a matt black tap in my kitchen. Should I opt to change my bathroom taps in the future, matt black would probably be the frontrunner. I’m a particular fan of the way that matt black brassware does not fall victim to messy fingerprints like shiny chrome or stainless steel does and doesn’t need cleaning as often to look good. Also it looks very sophisticated and wears well.
The new matt black addition to Crosswater’s MPRO range is extremely attractive and the complete collection of bathroom mixers, valves, and showerheads means there is no need to compromise with the look you are after. Crosswater has covered all bases here so now there is no problem if you are going for the matt black bathroom look. I particularly like it when matt black brassware is paired with a steel-framed window style shower screen.
You can see from my " target="_blank" rel="noopener">bathroom inspiration board on Pinterest that I’m pretty taken with these steel framed window style screens and matt black brassware at the moment.
Below you can see the complete MPRO range from Crosswater in matt black. It’s super sleek, right?
Another addition to the MPRO range is the brushed brass option. Brass took over from copper as the metal of the moment last year and has become a firm favourite in interiors. All manner of accessories now come in brass and furniture is increasingly seen with brass detailing. Well, now brass has made its way into the bathroom too and boy does it look good? Again the fact that it is brushed brass means there isn’t the issue with smearing or fingerprints, which is a bonus, especially if you have kids. I’ll leave you with a few more images of the brass range. Do let me know in the comments what you think about these two new finishes to the MPRO brassware range.
Thank you for sharing this information. It’s of great help.
I got the brushed brass, but cleaning is difficult… can’t use bleach, vinegar, lemon – think I regret buying coated taps because of worry of corrosion. Cleaning guidance from Crosswater is vague – just want to know the actual names of products I could use rather than a list of chemicals to avoid.
Hi Laura,
Please send us an email on sales@crosswater.co.uk and we would be happy to give you advice on cleaning your Crosswater products.

Choosing some marble effect in bathroom makeover is nice idea. I am pretty sure your bathroom looks beautiful after that. Something i am also having my bathroom renovation and surely apply some niche ideas from here.
Love this post. :)
Love matt black fittings! I agree with all the pros including the fact fingerprints won’t show. I’ve also seen white Matt in some hotels. Cool look, but harder to keep clean.
Yes Juan matt white does look cool and probably still easier to keep clean than shiny chrome. But matt black wins it for me!
I’ve been deeply madly in love with black taps for a while and absolutely love these matt ones. My only fear of installing them in our home is that we suffer from hard water which results in a lot of limescale ie., a lot of cleaning just to maintain chrome taps, with black it would show up more!! This is where my heart and my head i.e., reality collide lol ;) Great post Stacey
That’s annoying Maria. Limescale is such a pain. Luckily we don’t get much down south.
Love the MPRO range and absolutely gutted Crosswater don’t seem to do blog collaborations at the moment anyway, would have loved to have them in my bathroom (or I just have to dig deep and pay for them myself lol). But I also really like their UNION collection. If, however, you want to buy CROSSWATER MPRO cheaper than what is advertised…. ask me :)
Yes Jenny the union range is also one of my favourites! Hope you find your perfect taps!
I too favour matt black taps – they look so understatedly sophisticated!
They really do Natalia. I’ve found the upkeep to be much easier than chrome taps too.
It’s so incredibly refreshing to see something other than silver/chrome taps and fittings. About time!
Isn’t it Susan. Great to see so much choice now!
I really love this look however for some reason haven’t got any of it in my home. I think that it’s quite modern which isn’t really the aesthetic of our home. However we are going for a copper sink and an anthracite tap in our new kitchen!
Copper sink and anthracite tap sounds amazing Donna. Can’t wait to see the kitchen.
The matt black taps are so stylish and would be a great addition to any bathroom renovation
Agree totally Fiona. They also look great in kitchens!
Looks great!! It is good to see some excitement in the Bathroom Industry ! It is sometimes so old fashion still and very slow to come to market indeed and this is down to the fact they are very slow in predicting trends and volumes for anything out-of-the-ordinary (I know I worked there haha). Yet it is not that complicated to change brassware, and people could be tempted to update their brassware without changing a bathroom layout but then of course why would you change something based just on aestetics when we barely manage to recycle plastic bottles… :/. Nonetheless this black collection from Crosswater is very sleak and elegant! I really like it. I also like some collection from Dornbracht (a bit too pricey still) and Hansgrohe. Yes to more design-led decisions in the bathroom!
Totally agree Marlena. It does take a while for the bathroom industry to catch up. But it seems to be building momentum at the moment.
It is amazing. There is no doubt that why it so trending. Matt black, wow it is fascinating. I want this. Well, I don’t have Pinterest but I took a picture of it.
Love that Eliza. Who needs Pinterest when you can take a photo for inspiration?
I WANT it all Stacey. Honestly, I need these black taps in my life. I have a bathroom renovation on the horizon, and I’ve just added this to my Pinterest board!
I don’t blame you Mary. I don’t need to redo my bathroom at all as it’s still quite new, but I love all these matt black products! They are so beautiful!
