So, as I explained in a previous post, I am working with luxury bathroom brand Duravit this year as a brand ambassador to help them share the story of their brand and introduce you to their sanitaryware, bathroom furniture and accessories collections. If you missed the first introductory post you can read it here.
Visiting the Duravit Showroom for Clerkenwell Design Week
Just over a week ago now, I attended Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW) for the first time. I was in London for two days and the first day I spent at the flagship Duravit showroom which opened in Clerkenwell last summer. The showroom was recently refurbished to include all the new collections that were launched at ISH in Germany earlier this year.
Duravit Showroom
I had the opportunity to spend the day at the showroom with the Duravit team, exploring the new collections, learning about the designs and seeing how Clerkenwell Design Week went for them. This was actually Duravit’s first time taking part in the design event as well. The showroom is normally open by appointment only, but for CDW the doors were open to anyone who wanted to visit and take a look around. The showroom was really busy most of the day and there was such a nice atmosphere.
I used this opportunity to try my hand at making a movie of the day. I thought it might be a really nice way to show you around in person and I don’t know about you, but I always find video content a great way to get a more hands on feel for something. It’s almost like you’re actually there.
Now, I’d like to talk you through the new collections as they were mainly what people were coming in to see.
Duravit Viu & XViu
First up is Viu and XViu. Designed by sieger design, the Viu ceramics and XViu furniture range is a really eye-catching new addition to the Duravit portfolio. The V-shaped lateral aluminium profiles are really striking and are available in either matt black or matt champagne, which contrasts nicely against the white.
One of the highlights of the collection is the washbasin with its patented c-bonded technology. This innovation allows the washbasin to be seamlessly bonded to the vanity. This means the exterior of the basin can be a strict rectangle, while the interior features gentle organic curves with a clearly defined tap platform.
However, there is a multitude of options available for the washbasin which comes in five sizes. You can choose a furniture washbasin, built-in washbasin, or above counter washbasin and matching vanity unit with a pull-out compartment or two drawers.
A further highlight of the XViu series is the freestanding bathtub, which creates an eye-catching centrepiece. Here, too, the prominent metal frame with the familiar V-shaped profile comes in matt champagne or matt black as a contrast to the high-gloss white acrylic.
The bathtub is available in two sizes (160×80 cm, 180×80 cm). It is a precise rectangle when viewed from above, but it has an organic free form interior for maximum ergonomics.
Happy D.2 Plus
The second new collection presented at Clerkenwell Design Week was Happy D.2 Plus, also by sieger design. This is the third iteration of the design classic Happy D range and features the same archetypical open oval as its predecessors.
The range features above-counter basins, stand-alone consoles and matching tall and semi-tall cabinets as well as circular mirrors. The mirrors can be operated as individual components or they can be synchronised so that they can be controlled by one unit.
The bathtubs are made from glossy acrylic and come with the option of coming in all white or alternatively you can have a white interior with seamless Super Matt Graphite exterior paneling. The bathtub also comes in various models including back-to-wall, corner right or left as well as the free-standing version, all of which enable a high level of flexibility when it comes to room planning.
Luv
I couldn’t finish this post without mentioning my favourite Duravit collection which is Luv. Now, this isn’t exactly a new collection as it was launched in 2017 but this is the collection that really speaks to me. I won’t go into too much detail about it here and now though as I’m planning to do a separate post on this collection. But you can have a sneak peek to whet your appetite.
So that was my round-up of Clerkenwell Design Week at the Duravit showroom. I had a great day looking around, taking photos and making my first proper video. Do let me know what you think of these new collections, which is your favourite, and why? And did you like the movie?
