Finally, January is done and dusted! I don’t know about you but I always find it such a long, hard month to get through. After all the festivities of Christmas and New Year have come to an end January just seems like such an anti-climax. The mornings are dark, the evenings are dark and the days are often cold and drizzly. It’s definitely not my favourite time of year. Added to that is the inevitable financial shortfall after December’s excesses, which means all household improvements have been put on the back burner.
But as February arrives I always start to feel more positive and have more energy. Spring no longer seems quite so far away and my thoughts once again turn to DIY and home improvements. I now feel ready to up tools and continue where I left off with all those projects I started before the festive period. Makeover time it is. And it can be for you too!
I’ve teamed up with Good To Be Home to offer one lucky reader the chance to win £250 worth of John Lewis vouchers. Bought my first house :) and by myself! 3 bedrooms all needing furnished :(
I put board and batten along the wall in our hall recently
I moved into an absolute wreck of a house that needed total redecoration in every room & every single window needed sanding down and re-painting. The rooms were painted things like dark blue walls and black gloss on windows, doors, radiator, coving, skirtings etc. Or hot pink and red gloss on everything, another room had dark blue gloss and there was even yellow gloss in places. Also it is a town house over 3 floors and the hall, stairs and landings all the way up were painted in a vile shade of orangey-brown that took me 6 coats of white to cover it up completely! We later found that the place had damp problems too. I finally completed everything and the living room has been refreshed twice since, it but 6 years on this Spring and Summer, the whole place needs redecorating all over again and I feel so daunted as it was such a lot of work the first time round! I also have 3 more children, than I had when I moved in!
I laminated my bathroom floor

I am currently decorating my whole house. My daughter’s ‘Frozen’ themed bedroom will be competed shortly, then it’s the living room next. Although, I once fitted new internal doors throughout our house all by myself!

We have recently changed our kitchen. The cupboards are white, so we had all the possibilities and went for a deep berry colour for the walls. We changed all the silver knobs and handles to black powder coated ones to give it a little rustic touch. And I bought a painfully expensive hydrangea wreath with over 30 inches diameter (that matches the new colour just perfectly!!!) to make it the main wall feature. It’s like a whole new room :)
I would love to see a modern bathroom makeover with some nautical touches as I love the seaside and my bathroom looks very dull.
When we moved into our house the living room was like a puke coloured orange. We’ve redecorated it now and it’s different shades of browns and cream. It still needs some finishing touches though

Also, new bed set would be lovely for spring, something soft, with character. :)

Some ideas on revamping a conservatory would be really helpful. There’s usually more glass than wall space in a conservatory, so it’s not an easy design task. But I’d like to find some way of making use of the abundant light while adding a contemporary twist to what is, at the moment, a rather dull ‘room’.
Need practical but good looking storage ideas for dog stuff and outdoor gear, which currently litter the conservatory!

My room desperately needs some TLC!
My dad moved in with us 10 months ago into our tiny spare room. It used to be my dumping room and the wallpaper is flowery, outdated and old. I would love to re-design it with some more “manly” wallpaper preferably plain with a basic design and some wooden flooring. I would also put plenty of shelves up for him and get him a bed as the poor man is sleeping on a mattress on the floor. As with all things it boils down to money but I hope to be able to do something with it soon !

I used a pair of curtains from ebay to brighten up and transform a bathroom. I cut each curtain in 2 and used 1 set for the window and a matching set to cover a cupboard in the alcove that didn’t have doors. I cut out bits of the pattern from the offcuts to decorate around the edges of a nasty plastic clock! Quite pleased with the results.
Everywhere!

The next on our list is our bedroom, been trawling pinterest to find some inspiration, just need to start the shopping now!
We are just in the process of re-doing our shower/utility room. With 5 adults in the house it gets heavy use + the difficulty and restrictions with the wash/tumble dryer in such a small space makes it quite a challenge. Want it sleek and stylish but in a traditional way so we probably go with Whites and neutrel beiges/creams as the room has very little natural light

do up our daughters bedroom
I redesigned my bedroom i turned it for drab to fab.
We’re currently trying to decide whether to turn our lounge (which is underused due to a new and cosy conservatory) into a formal dining room. We want to still have some comfy chairs in there too so we’re not sure if that make it a little of lots of this and not all of one thing – if you know what I mean? Also wondering if a woodburning stove is worthwhile when there’s a dining table blocking the sight line but feel it would make the room feel welcoming. So, advice on dining rooms in homes that have families visiting and when it’s ok not to have a formal “lounge”

We want to convert our bathroom from a 70’s inspired celebration of all things Aubergine – into a on trend wet room
Before I even came across the term “upcycling”, I decided to try and transform some picture frames and dining chairs that my parents had offered me. I’m usually more mentally than physically created, so I was really pleased with how everything turned out :) I replaced the awful dining chair covers (which were greyish-cream) with some fresh blue fabric, thanks to some help from Google and an awesome staple gun. Similarly, the old-fashioned gold gilt-style picture frames were resprayed with a bright, modern paint, which are almost worthy of appearing in the Next catalogue lol. I just love the satisfaction you get from doing little projects like this yourself :)
I hope to build a window seat with storage in the bay window in the lounge.
I redesigned my small bathroom a couple of years ago. Although it cost me quite a lot each time I walk into the room I love it so it was well worth doing.
