Hotel Sanders : Design Hotel in Copenhagen

Sander Hotel, a design hotel in copenhagen. The bedrooms have a colonial influence and feature muted earthy colours and natural material

Happy Monday everyone!! I hope you all had a lovely weekend? Now that September is over, I finally feel like we are getting back into the swing of things with the school routine. So the chaos at home is finally subsiding a bit. This weekend, I spent a fair bit of time daydreaming about holidays. We didn’t manage to get away this summer because my husband had not long started a new job and the timing was just all wrong. So I’ve been craving a bit of an escape for a while now. When I feel like this, I inevitably turn to the internet to hunt out design-led hotels to add to my must-visit list.

So today’s offering is Hotel Sanders, a design hotel in Copenhagen and oh my word it is a beauty. Nestled down a quiet cobbled side street, in the historic heart of Copenhagen’s cultural district, Hotel Sanders is conveniently located just a few minutes away from Kongens Nytorv metro station. It is within walking distance from all the main tourist attractions, including the pretty canal of Nyhavn and the shopping street of Strøget.

Open since late 2017, Hotel Sanders is the first luxury boutique hotel to have opened in Copenhagen. The classical 19th-century building was formerly known as Hotel Opera until it was bought by the Kølpin Group, who already owns two other hotels on the Danish Riviera. The new owner, Alexander Kølpin, refurbished the run down hotel, taking it from 90 rooms to 54, with the help of London-based design firm Lind + Almond.

Kølpin, a renowned dancer formerly with the Royal Danish Ballet, has created a perfectly choreographed small-city hotel that is both smooth and graceful. It combines Danish mid-century modern design in perfect combination with Scandi minimalism and a hint of hygge. Spread over five floors, this beautiful design hotel in Copenhagen is luxurious without being ostentatious and refined yet relaxed.

The 54 elegant bedrooms balance clean lines with muted earthy paint shades in olives, creams and ochres. The high-end finishes, bespoke furniture and plush fabrics are complimented by the natural wood floors throughout. Overall, there is a colonial feel to the rooms which is highlighted by the inclusion of rattan cabinet doors and headboards, woven rugs and the strategic use of potted plants. The bathrooms have a subtle industrial influence.

The courtyard has been designed as an inviting oasis in the heart of Sanders. It has been thoughtfully decorated with greenery and hand-picked furniture and can be used all year round thanks to the addition of an open wood-burning fireplace.

The roof terrace, situated on the fifth floor, provides a tranquil place to hang out during the day and take in the charming views of the city’s tiled roofs. And just look at all those plants and natural materials…biophilic heaven!!!

Then there is Sanders Kitchen, the all-day dining area, which is a bright, white-tiled bistro-style space. AGain plenty of natural materials that make the space look less clinical and more inviting.

I’m sold!!! What about you? Would you consider staying at Hotel Sanders on your next trip to Copenhagen?
