Back in September when I visited Maison & Objet in Paris, one of the standout companies that I came across was 3S design, a family-owned Slovenian company that specializes in architectural design, product design and manufacturing. When the newest generation of the family joined the metal workshop business, 25 years’ of experience took on a new lease of life and in 2012 3S design was born.
The company now uses its knowledge and expertise in architectural design to produce innovative and functional designs that solve the issues created by modern day living. These issues are primarily the fact that modern dwellings are becoming increasingly smaller and as a result designs need to meet the challenges that these restrictive spaces present. Using steel, magnets and wood, 3s design comes up with fresh ideas that provide user-friendly solutions.
When I stopped by the 3s design stand, I was able to spend a short while chatting to Lana Strle, one of 3s design’s co-founders. Lana is an architect and designer, and as well as her role at 3s design she also works as a teaching assistant at the University of Ljubljana, in the Faculty of Architecture. Her background gives her invaluable experience when it comes to designing products that meet the needs of modern living.
Steelline_magnet was the collection that really caught my eye. It is a magnetic storage system composed of base plates and magnetic accessories. The base plates are glued to the wall and magnetic units such as shelves, hangers, holders, and hooks can be positioned anywhere on the magnetic plate making a truly flexible storage solution for the home.
The base plates are made of steel that is powder coated with a specially textured paint, making it UV and fingerprint resistant. It is available in different colours, or alternatively it can be lined with veneer. The accessories have inbuilt magnets and are made of powder coated steel, solid oak, or a combination of the two.
The base plates come in standard size but can also be made to bespoke dimensions with the option to have cutouts for sockets. The accessories are extremely good quality and well made and the magnets are surprisingly strong.
This magnetic storage system is perfect for use in the kitchen to store herbs, spices, knives, mugs, textiles and any other small items that need to be kept close to hand. However, it can also be used in home offices, hallways, bedrooms or living rooms.
To see this magnetic storage system in action you can watch this short clip below. Once you’ve seen it, let me know what you think. Do you think this kind of system would help you to make the most of the space you have available in the kitchen? Or would you use it somewhere else?
This is a brilliant idea, we could do with something like this in our kitchen because it’s so small this would use the splashback area for something useful!
What a great idea Stacey, and it looks so sleek and stylish too. Fabulous x
