My Small Bathroom Makeover Update

Design Sheppard bathroom Makeover

So I thought it was about time that I posted an update on my small bathroom makeover for you guys. It’s come on really great and I’m so excited to show you our progress. (Apologies for the poor quality photos and the mess). It’s not quite finished yet so you’ll have to wait a little while longer for the final reveal I’m afraid. We’ve had the plumber in to remove all our old sanitaryware and fit the new stuff and the tiler has been round to tile the walls and floor, so we’re getting there. We just need to fit the bath panel, the extractor fan, a mirror and put up some shelves now and then we’ll be able to fully appreciate our spanking new bathroom…I can’t wait!

Here’s a reminder of what the bathroom looked like before…

And here are some photos of the work in progress…

The tiles that we choose for the new bathroom are from the Form and Function range from British Ceramic Tile. We choose white ones as we hoped that it would make the space feel bigger and brighter. Although the bathroom was only magnolia before, so not particularly dark, it still felt very dingy. We also went for the matt option as I’ve never really been a big fan of shiny tiles. Having spoken to a few designy friends about the tiles, we opted for these larger format tiles as they create fewer grout lines which helps make the space look larger. We decided to tile all four walls in our small bathroom as we wanted to minimize the different materials and create a more unified space. I am so pleased that I choose these tiles. They are even better in real life than they come across in the images. They feel so lovely and the subtle, textured hexagon pattern is just stunning. The tiler was sceptical at first and said they would be a nightmare to clean, but by the time he’d finished the room he was totally won over and loved them just as much as me. We’ve already had some great comments about the tiles from people who have come to visit.

I looked everywhere to find some compact bathroom furniture and sanitaryware and I was really quite surprised by the lack of choice on the market, especially considering the fact that bathrooms in the UK don’t really tend to be that big. There is a lovely range by Ideal Standard called Concept Space. This was sadly out of our budget so I had to keep looking. I knew what I wanted and it was proving really hard to find it, until I did a google image search and found exactly what I was looking for at Victoria Plum. It was a compact unit that would cover all the pipework and that had a really compact little sink. After all, who needs a massive sink in the bathroom, right? It’s only for hand and face washing.

So, that’s the hard work all done. Now it’s just the finishing touches, which is much more fun! I’ve really enjoyed choosing all the new accessories for the bathroom. At first, it was hard to find what I was looking for, and I had a really hard time deciding on the colour scheme. I originally decided on navy blue as I thought that was a really classy colour and would look really sophisticated, it’s also my favourite colour. However, I was tempted to opt for yellow and grey as I thought it would be brighter and sunnier and a bit happier. I already have a gorgeous bin from Brabantia that I wanted to use in the bathroom which would be perfect for a yellow scheme. So I settled on yellow and grey in the end.

I used this as the basis of my design scheme and I’m so pleased that I did. I found some fantastic products from the House range at John Lewis. They are really perfect for the bathroom and it’s going to look stunning when it’s finished. Here is a moodboard that I have knocked up to show you what the final look will be.

The bath, taps and toilet/sink unit were bought from Victoria Plum, the accessories were bought from John Lewis and the shower is from the Triton Collection at B&Q. I opted for the blue shower when I was having a navy blue scheme but I liked it so much I decided I would still buy it. Originally I wanted to go for a shower that was concealed behind the wall but after discussing it with the plumber it was a hell of a lot of work and would require us to inform the local council under Part P building regulations. Stuff that!! So I hunted high and low for a chic looking electric shower, not an easy job I tell you as there really aren’t that many on the market. Especially if your requirements are more than just aesthetic such as featuring a hard water shower filter.

I think my favourite find for our small bathroom makeover has to be these absolutely amazing towels from John Lewis. They really are going to be the statement piece I was hoping for. I couldn’t have imagined that I would find such perfect towels when I first started looking. Do you love them as much as I do?

So what do you guys think of our small bathroom makeover? Making good progress, right? I can’t wait to share the finished project with you when it’s all tidy and dressed with all these beauties. Stay tuned for the final reveal coming soon.
