Botanist is a SS20 interior trend from Very.co.uk that really emphasizes nature in interiors
No, no, don’t worry, this has absolutely nothing to do with the urge to urinate. But rather the rising feeling that we have all had in the past few months that we need to reconnect with nature. Our increasingly urban, fast-paced lives mean that we have slowly lost touch with the natural world and this global pandemic has only served to heighten that feeling. And it is showing up in the interior trends that we are witnessing right now. This makes me so happy!
Nature in interiors
Even before lockdown I had a great love of surrounding myself with natural materials and greenery. It is just so good for our mental health and wellbeing so I’m trying to fill my home with plants and natural textures and materials. A good old dose of biophilic design.
I think we are going to see a lot more nature in interiors over the coming months. Lockdown taught us all how much we value and need that connection with nature. As we were confined to our homes and often unable to access outside spaces, we noticed how much we as humans have an innate biological connection to nature and just how good it is for our mental health and wellbeing. So expect to see people filling their homes with greenery, natural materials and tactile textures.

Sanctuary – Dunelm
With the outside world no longer being such a safe place thanks to COVID-19, it has become even more important to ensure that our homes are our sanctuary. We all need a safe space to retreat to where we can recharge, relax and block out anything that feels unsafe or overwhelming. Introducing nature in interiors is such a great way to do this.
Sanctuary by Dunelm is a light and airy look which has an easy-going charm that suits any room. Soothing neutral tones and tranquil leafy greens form a calming palette with textured textiles, bamboo and cane accessories.
In the days of frantic hustle and bustle we all need a place where we can find some calm. This look is cool and airy and inspired by the desire to live a more mindful, more sustainable life.

Go Green – M&S
M&S have a green shop bursting with homeware products that help you promote nature in interiors and bring the botanical trend into your home from faux foliage to printed bedding and everything in between.
Plants and printed accessories are a really cost effective way of making a big impact in a space and really bringing those green leafy vibes inside. With the threat of more local lockdowns on the horizon and the prospect of being cooped up inside this winter, many people are making it a priority to focus on their home interior and make sure that it brings them joy, is functional and is a place that is restorative, relaxing and balancing. What better way to do that than with nature in interiors.
So I think this trend is going to go from strength to strength over the coming months. I for one want to deepen my connection with nature and bring botanical aspects into my home will be a priority this season and into next.
I always love a rich green as an accent color, like that velvet throw pillow in the bedroom with the white duvet. Also like the use of a mirror to reflect the foliage from one side of the room… so clever! Thanks for the inspiration!
