I wrote about the trend for using concrete in interiors over on Freshome back in November and in the piece I touched on the fact that concrete is being used in unexpected ways in our homes. Even products that are traditionally associated with warmth or comfort are now being made in this industrial material to surprising effect. This versatile material has gained a new lease of life thanks to the ‘industrial chic’ trend and we are now seeing increasing numbers of products for interiors that are fabricated in concrete.
I spotted this concrete basin by Alhambretto and just had to share it with you to get your views. Alhambretto is an Italian design duo comprised of Viviana Dell’Acqua and Francesco Feliziani. Together they take a critical look at the past and employ traditional techniques from a contemporary viewpoint. Their work is characterized by the use of traditional materials, the re-evaluation of salvaged materials and special attention to they pay to sustainability issues.
So what do you reckon to this? Personally I find it quite intriguing. Whilst it obviously isn’t the sleekest piece of sanitaryware on the market, I must say I find it rather endearing. How do you feel about using concrete in the home in this way?
I think it looks refreshing and charming. It maybe concrete but it looks nothing like the rough-looking concrete furniture pieces I have seen. It looks so chic and smooth.
This is concrete??? Wow, it looks so soft, so gentle! A real design piece and great as a focal point in a commercial place!
