Living somewhere that is packed full of character is perhaps the dream for many of us, but not necessarily the reality. Anyone who lives in a new build will know that the developers don’t go out of their way to incorporate characterful features into the houses that they build. This can also be said for many people who rent and are subjected to large expanses of non-descript magnolia walls. Unable to even hang pictures in some cases, renters are often left living in homes that really lack that personal touch or any kind of statement features.
There has been a large movement in recent years towards trying to help renters personalise their space in a way that is temporary and will not lead to aggravating landlords who don’t want their property changed or damaged in any way. Remember this book by Joanna Thornhill? There are some really great ideas and products out there that allow us to add a unique feel to our homes, but in a less permanent manner. The latest product that I have discovered is +TIMBER, an innovative new peel and stick system that allows you to stick timber boards onto the wall or ceiling.
+TIMBER is a family business with over 40 years experience in the flooring industry. Their head office and warehouse is based in Lancashire, but they supply all over the UK. This exciting new product only launched this past Spring but I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a big hit. The trend for using timber boards for walls has apparently come to the UK from the US where such products are highly sought after. But +TIMBER say that what makes them different is the fact that they use timber that is responsibly sourced from a pine forest in North America, rather than using reclaimed timber which can substantially alter the quality and overall finish of Peel and Stick products.
What I really like about this peel and stick system is the fact that anyone can do it and there is no need to have any special training. So you don’t need to worry about paying out for a professional fitter as installation is quick and easy and even the most novice DIYer can have a go. All that is required is a few simple tools and you can apply the pieces to almost any surface in a matter of minutes. However, the planks are not suitable for humid areas like bathrooms and should be kept out of direct sunlight and away from direct heat sources. They also can’t be used outdoors for obvious reasons.
+TIMBER wooden boards come in five different coloured designs and finishes including Pebble brown, Mineral Grey, Lumber Brown, Tumbled Merlin Grey and Deep Harbour Brown. Each design creates a unique look and feel and you can even combine finishes and colours to create a truly individual effect.
I was really impressed with the installation process after I watched the video and I don’t know about you guys, but to me this looks so much easier than wall papering and even painting if I’m honest. And I doubt your landlord could complain as it looks like it would be pretty easy to remove if necessary. It could be a great temporary solution for renters looking to put their own stamp on a place with a bit of simple DIY. In just a few simple steps you have created an entirely new look in your home:
Measure up:
Mark up:
Cut:
Stick:
There are so many scenarios in which I could see this working. I think it’s a great option if you’re a fan of industrial interiors as these timber boards for walls help to give a space a bit more of a raw and rustic feel. It would also work for a shabby chic, farmhouse type feel as it helps to make a room feel warmer, don’t you think? And a little bit more cosy? It would also be great in a scandi inspired interior. I love the look and feel of natural materials at home and I think these planks are perfect for people who want to incorporate a more natural vibe at home.
If you’re as taken with this idea as I am you can order free samples of each of the colours/finishes on the +TIMBER website by entering the coupon code ‘freesample’ at the checkout so you can try before you buy. Simply click here.
Or if you’re feeling lucky there is a great competition running at the moment where you can be in with the chance of winning £500 of peel and stick +TIMBER wood boards. You can enter here. Good Luck!!
Disclosure: This post has been sponsored by +TIMBER. However, I want to stress that I only collaborate with brands and companies that I genuinely like and believe that my readers will like too.
How can I look at your product choices please
Hi Nadine, if you click on the link in the post you will be taken to the website where you can see the whole range.
They look great. But re this bit..
“it looks like it would be pretty easy to remove if necessary”
Have you checked this?
Hi Jen, I have not used these myself so I can’t say for sure how easy they are to remove. I would suggest contacting them directly for further information and advice.
Wow, check that out, don’t they look amazing. Great post Stacey, thanks for sharing.
They look great and easy to put up. They do brown as well as grey. http://plustimber.com/product/deep-harbour-brown/
I love the process! Amazing! Thank you for sharing!
They’re fantastic – what a great idea! Thanks for sharing. x
What a fantastic idea, that would have been great in our rental house. Great idea, and looks good too.
Oh wow, these look fab Stacey – wouldn’t have guessed they were attached so easily to the wall!
Me neither Kate, they look pretty impressive don’t they?
What a great idea! I can see this working with lots of different styles and giving any room a bit of personality xx
Definitely Kimberly, they look so versatile.
What a clever idea! I like the idea of it being ‘peel and stick’ although it does look like there’s still a fair of cutting and measuring involved. It’s a great alternative for people who want some character in their home though.
I guess it depends on the size of the area you are covering. With any luck the wall would fit an exact number of boards. Lol
The idea is really cool, if only they provide boards in white. Absolutely in love with the first picture, those colours and textures are to die for! Xx
White boards would definitely be a fantastic addition to the range. Fingers crossed they will add this option in the future.
This is such a great idea. I wish it wasn’t just grey boards though. I popped over to the website wondering if it was something I could do in our soon to be revamped home office but I’m not the biggest fan of greys. I love the effect though.
I agree Rachel, grey isn’t for everyone and hopefully they will extend the range in the future. Fingers crossed.
These look great! I’ve seen similar on Pinterest
Me too Susan but I always assumed the boards were affixed in a more permanent manner.
