Review : Cubert LED Lamp with Integrated Power & Charging

Cubert LED lamp with power and charging

Speak to any lighting expert and they will tell you just how important it is to make sure you have a variety of lighting available in your home in order to create an atmosphere that is both comfortable and practical. The general advice seems to be that you should have a mix of light sources at different levels to create a flattering ambience, and you need appropriate task lighting for whatever you do in that space. Seems like pretty good advice to me. Well today I am going to focus on task lighting as I review the nifty little Cubert LED lamp. LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) have become increasingly popular options for lighting in recent years due to the energy saving benefits that they offer. They generally use about 20%-25% of the energy and last up to 25 times longer than traditional bulbs so it’s easy to see why they are so popular. Cubert for example has a lifespan of approximately 50,000 hours. But this little lamp is about so much more than just LEDs and energy saving. Let me tell you more…

To be honest, when I was first approached by Colebrook Bosson Saunders with a view to reviewing Cubert, it wasn’t the LED bit that interested me at all. It was the fact that this little guy comes with integrated power and charging facilities. By that I mean that there are two integrated mains sockets into which you can plug your laptop, tablet, smart phone and various other portable devices as well as two smart, high-powered USB charging sockets. Imagine that! I’ve mentioned here many times before that I can’t stand cable mess and one thing I really despise is the extension lead. But with Cubert you can avoid messy clutter of an extension lead as you can plug four separate devices into this compact little light source. And when I say compact I mean compact. It’s only 30cm tall and has a footprint of just 8cm x 8cm so it takes up hardly any surface space at all and can easily be moved around. You can see from the pictures that it takes up about half as much surface space as my phone!

So back to the lighting for a minute, it’s important to know that the Cubert LED lamp has a touch sensitive dimmer which offers four levels of illumination. The brightest setting is really quite powerful so I didn’t use that one too much as I found it a bit too bright, but the other three settings are really quite pleasing. The head of the lamp also adjusts and rotates to suit the users’ ergonomic lighting requirements.  It can be angled up and down by 35° and rotated side to side by 110°.

The main challenge was to incorporate the electrical requirements within such a compact architecture, that we were able to do this in a refined way while meeting all electrical safety testing just demonstrates our commitment to high-end and original design.

Cubert is designed for use in the office, hospitality, retail and home sectors and is actually a really versatile little gadget. So I was not surprised to learn that it received a 2015 Red Dot Award in Product Design. The only downside I could find to the Cubert LED Lamp is the price as it is not cheap. But then again it is a multi-functional, flexible product that offers a number of benefits and I guess those things don’t come cheap.
