I can’t believe how fast the new year is whizzing past. January is nearly over already! There is just so much to blog about but I have so little time these days as looking after Matylda is more than a full time job, not that I’m complaining and she is an absolute joy. But there are so many new collections that are being launched and deserve coverage here on The Design Sheppard. Last week I took a look at the Sainsbury’s SS14 Home & Lifestyle Collection and this week it’s the turn of Marks and Spencer as we take a peek at the SS14 Home Collection. There are some really gorgeous products that caught my eye instantly and while browsing the collection three trends jumped out at me and I wanted to share them with you here.
The first trend that caught my attention was the trend for bright colours in the home. From bakeware, textiles and soft furnishings to furniture, there are plenty of products that can brighten up your home this year. I don’t know about you but I’ve had enough of the bleak and dreary winter weather now and spring can’t come soon enough. Luckily there is no need to wait for spring or summer to inject your home with beautiful brights. Below are some of my favourite uplifting and cheery products from the collection.
The next trend that I identified is the trend for indigo in the home. Now as you may recall Indigo was chosen by Dulux as colour of the year for 2013 so it’s no big surprise to see it filtering down onto the highstreet. The SS14 home collection from M&S features an abundance of beautiful indigo products including bedding, ceramics and furniture and many of the products would also fit in quite nicely as part of the Definitely Delft trend that I identified back in October.
Again I have selected a handful of my favourite products from the collection that epitomise this trend. I fell in love with indigo earlier this year and I find that there is something so calming about this deeply delicious and rich shade of blue. I’m seriously considering indigo for my bedroom makeover when I can finally afford to do it. And this bedding would probably find itself on my wishlist.
And the final trend that I identified from the M&S SS14 Home Collection was ombre. I have also written about ombre here before following a painting workshop I attended at Meet the Blogger where Marianne Shillingford, Creative Director at Dulux, ran a class all about the ombre paint technique. But if creating an ombre effect on your walls seems a little too adventurous why not create the same effect in your home by incorporating a few carefully chosen accent pieces such as those below from the M&S SS14 Home Collection? Textiles, furniture and ceramics can be used to introduce a touch of ombre elegance into your home without having to commit to a more permanent paint job.
So what do you guys think of these trends? Do they come as a surprise to you? Which is your favourite and are there any other trends that you identified from the collection? I’d love to hear from you so as always please do drop me a line below!
Very colorful and cheerful – my favorite is the dark blue selection. Love indigo hues right now.
I can’t say I go for the ombre look but I think the neons are really bright and joyful. I need a few of those wooden spoons to liven up my kitchen! Yasmin Chopin Interior Design
So much to love here, I adore the indigo. It’s really calming even though it’s bold.
Me too Jenni, I’m thinking of doing my bedroom in indigo as it is so calming!
